Young Investigator Day

The Young Investigator Day "Neuroblastoma" is a new scientific format launched by SIOP for the first time in 2011.

Five selected young researchers (< 40 years) working in the field of neuroblastoma (clinical, translational or basic research) will have the opportunity to present their research project in a 20-minute oral presentation followed by extensive discussion with the audience and with well-known experts in the field. The day will be organised and chaired by the neuroblastoma researchers, John Maris (Philadelphia, USA), Angelika Eggert (Essen, Germany) and Andrew Wood (Auckland, New Zealand).

The purpose of the SIOP Young Investigator Day is to provide promising young researchers with an opportunity to critically appraise their work, to give advice on potential ways leading to a successful career in pediatric oncology and to stimulate networking between young scientists in the different fields of pediatric oncology.

The day will start with an Introduction to the Scientific State-of-the-art and the Future of Paediatric Oncology (John Maris) and An Overview of How to Get Started and Enter the Field (Angelika Eggert).

Oral presentations of 5 young investigators will be followed by an interactive round-table discussion focussed on how to get started? How to network? How to get funding? What are the obstacles in the different countries? And what can SIOP do for young investigators?
