Central Nervous System
Dear Friends and Colleagues
Welcome to Auckland! The programme for the 43rd Congress of the International Society for Paediatric Oncology is coming together nicely - and with an exciting pre-congress symposium entitled "Innovative multi-disciplinary approaches to minimising acute symptoms and late effects in the treatment of CNS tumours in children", promises to be an exceptional meeting.
Central nervous system tumours account for around a quarter of new oncology diagnoses in childhood. While we remain focused on attempts to improve survival in many of these tumours, both acute toxicities and late effects remain significant limiting factors in delivering curative therapy. Maintaining and promoting quality of life is an especially important consideration in planning treatment strategies for childhood CNS tumours.
We have brought together leading local and international experts from across the breadth of the multidisciplinary team. The goal is to emphasise achievements to date, as well as offering insights into future innovations that might result in further reduction in toxicities in this group of children. By covering the complete spectrum of treatment modalities and interventions we have created a programme that will be of interest to all who are involved in the care of children with CNS tumours.
We are excited by the focus of the day and the calibre of the speakers who have agreed to participate. Take a look at the accompanying programme for yourself, and plan on coming together with friends and colleagues, from near and far, for a stimulating and informative Symposium on Thursday 27 October.
We look forward to seeing you all in Auckland!
